Harbor of Grace Advanced Recovery Center
“Harbor of Grace Enhanced Recovery Center is proud to provide professional and confidential addiction treatment for various life challenges that may affect the personal well-being of First Responders to include treatment for substance abuse and alcoholism.
Our First Responder treatment program includes counseling for work-related stress and trauma, and alcohol and substance abuse treatment that includes both inpatient and Intensive Outpatient treatment. A thorough initial assessment will result in assignment to the proper Harbor of Grace therapist, who will follow the patient throughout their progress in the program. Our unique staff make-up includes several career and volunteer first responders that know first-hand the many challenges and understand the stress that every firefighter, EMS provider and police officer encounters on a daily basis. Harbor of Grace’s First Responder Peer Program includes individual counseling, group therapy, and long-term monitoring for those afflicted with work-related stress and trauma.”

National Suicide Prevention Hotline

“The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the United States. We’re committed to improving crisis services and advancing suicide prevention by empowering individuals, advancing professional best practices, and building awareness.”
Alcoholics Anonymous

“We are people who have discovered and admitted that we cannot control alcohol. We have learned that we must live without it to live normal, happy lives. We are not anti-alcohol and we have no wish to reform the world. We are not allied with any group, cause or religious denomination. We welcome new members, but we do not recruit them. We do not impose our experience with problem drinking on others, but we do share it when we are asked to do so. We know our own sobriety depends on connecting with other alcoholics.”
Narcotics Anonymous

“If you are like many of us when we attended our first NA meeting, you may be feeling pretty
nervous and think that everyone at the meeting is focusing on you. If so, you are not the only
one. Many of us have felt the same way. It has been said, “If your stomach’s all tied up in knots,
you’re probably in the right place.” We often say that no one comes through the doors of NA by
mistake. Nonaddicted people don’t spend their time wondering if they’re addicts. They don’t
even think about it. If you’re wondering whether or not you’re an addict, you might be one. Just
allow yourself the time to listen to us share about what it has been like for us. Perhaps you will
hear something that sounds familiar to you. It doesn’t matter whether or not you have used the
same drugs others mention. It is not important which drugs you used; you’re welcome here if
you want to stop using. Most addicts experience very similar feelings, and it is in focusing on
our similarities, rather than our differences, that we are helpful to one another.”
Veterans Affairs – Mental Health

“VA has a variety of mental health resources, information, treatment options, and more — all accessible to Veterans, Veterans’ supporters, and the general public.”
CopLine

“CopLine offers a confidential 24-hour hotline answered by retired law enforcement officers who have gone through a strenuous vetting and training process to become an active listener. CopLine retired officer listeners provide assistance with the successful management of various psychosocial stressors that impact a significant number of law enforcement officers and their families. Should the caller need further assistance the retired officer listener has access to vetted clinical referrals to therapists and programs throughout our callers regions to further assist with ongoing stressors.”
“CopLine wants to be part of the solution by reducing the stigma associated with reaching out for help. It is imperative for police officer’s to have a safe place they can call to talk about anything occurring in their life. Issues from on-duty stressors involving FTO’s/Supervisors, management decisions, hatred from community members and violence/trauma experienced from patrol and off-duty stressors such as addictions, financial pressure and relationship issues. Officers who are struggling with flashbacks, nightmares, depression, PTSD and suicide ideation should not have to worry about “a knock on their door” after revealing their personal story.
Our goal is to make available our resource so that officers from all law enforcement branches (city, state, federal) have an outlet which they can turn to in times of need. If we provide our resource to every officer from their first day on the job, informing them that they will never be alone, then officers will have the tools necessary to navigate those difficult situations in their life. We believe if officers have a CONFIDENTIAL place to call to relieve stress and anxiety, those crucial moments won’t build up and lead to higher at-risk behavior including suicide.”
IAFF Center of Excellence

“The IAFF Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health Treatment and Recovery is a one-of-a-kind treatment facility specializing in PTSD for professional fire service members who struggle with trauma, substance use, addiction and other related behavioral health challenges. It is a safe haven for members to receive the help they need in taking the first steps toward recovery and share experiences with other members who have faced or overcome similar challenges.”
Therapy Cafe – Prince Frederick, Md

“At Therapy Café, we are dedicated to reducing the stigma of mental illness and providing a menu of services for you to choose from that are focused on the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. We are also committed to providing these mental wellness services at a high-quality to all individuals in the community. On our website, you will see a picture of purple irises, which is a symbol of mental illness recovery based upon the famous painting, Irises, by Vincent Van Gogh, who suffered from mental illness.”
EMDR

EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a form of psychotherapy developed by Francine Shapiro, Ph.D., that was originally designed to alleviate distress associated with traumatic memories such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Studies have shown that with EMDR therapy, people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took many years to make a difference. It has been widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal, but with EMDR therapy the mind can heal from the psychological trauma as much as the body recovers from physical trauma.
